Nestor Audinot (1842 - 1920) worked with Sebastien Vuillaume, the nephew of J.B. Vuillaume, from 1863 until 1866 before establishing his own workshop. He was to take over the famous Vuillaume shop in Paris upon the Vuillaumes' deaths in 1875. This violin, in spectacular condition, is based on a Guarneri pattern. The varnish is a translucent amber. The instrument is extremely responsive and easy to play. The tone is open, warm and refined with plenty of power and projection. 356mm

Originally from the Netherlands, Marten Cornelissen has been making violins, violas, and cellos in Northampton, Massachusetts since 1969. His significant output of instruments includes a viola commissioned by Samuel Rhodes of the Juilliard quartet, who describes it as "one of the finest violas my colleagues and I have ever heard." The craftsmanship of this more recent Cornelissen viola is excellent. The expert application of the golden-brown varnish highlights the beautiful flame of the wood. The instrument has a wonderfully live playing response and the tone quality is rich and round. 16 1/2 inches.

Orsolo Gotti (1867-1922) worked with Carlo Carletti and Luigi Mozzani to produce a large number of instruments. He was also influenced by master makers Ettore Soffriti and Augusto Pollastri. His instruments received numerous awards, and his son Anselmo also became a celebrated maker in Ferrara. This cello, probably made in Pieve di Cento, Bologna around 1915, has a rich, dark red-brown varnish on a yellow ground. It has a soaring, sophisticated tone quality. This cello comes with a certificate from Dimitri Gindin. 753mm
